Needlepoint Tent stitch

Last week I have got my mail from Pradhan embroidery stores with some yarns, embroidery threads, purse thread and single thread tapestry canvas.  I am happy that I have got the canvas in my hand.  So with the thought of making a needlepoint stitch sampler I started with the tent stitch.   Used all the six strands of embroidery thread.  I have learned to do the stitch from here.

Block 1 - TENT STITCH

Also drawn a mandala in my sketch book.

Some quilled creations for a photo frame.

My Sophie's garden blanket is blocked and it is getting dried up.  Will take snaps next week and will be posted here.  Till then happy crafting and embroidering.  Have a happy weekend.

Bargello Needlepoint and some doodles

Apart from the surface embroidery, Kutch work, Kasuti, cross stitch etc I like to do bargello needlepoint embroidery.  There are so many patterns in this.  With simple long stitch or straight stitch we can create beautiful patterns depending on the color combo.  It is also known as florentine stitch or flame stitch embroidery.  It is worked in needlepoint canvas.  I didn't have the canvas and so I have tried this in aida cloth with all 6 strands of embroidery thread.  That's why gaps are seen in between the threads.  If it is done in needlepoint or tapestry canvas the embroidered area will be filled completely.  These patterns will work up quickly.  My next project on needlepoint will be on tapestry canvas

I have tried the simple pattern and turned that piece into a purse.  If you want to try your hands on it visit this page. Now over to the embroidered piece.  Click on the images to view better.

During the month of May I was not able to do more embroidery since kids were at home and I was mainly crocheting the sohpie's garden blanket.  It is in its finishing stage and in a day  or two it will be completed.  After that I will post the completed blanket.  In between I have crocheted some solid granny squares with 2 rounds.  In my next post I will show where I have used those squares.

Also Look at what I have doodled in my free time.  A zentangle mandala and a colourful page with some patterns.  Followed the youtube videos for drawing these.  Want to draw one? click here and here for the video.

From Monday onwards kids will be back to school and I am ready for my next embroidery project.  Design, fabric and threads were also selected.  Waiting for monday.  Before that Sophie's garden should be completed.  Wish me good luck.  Bye.

Sophie's Garden - Progress so far

Back in february I have joined sophies Universal CAL hosted by dedri of look at what I made.  It is a blanket cal and she has finished all the official rounds of the blanket.  So far 113 rounds have been completed.  I have also completed the 113 rounds and blocked my blanket.  It came around 47 x 47 inches.

And last week the squares for making the blanket into rectangle has been posted.  But I am not going to do the squares.  Instead I am going to continue with the as-we-go-stripey-blanket pattern on both the sides to fit my double size bed.  I can't believe my eyes. This is the first time I am using these many colors in a single project.  Very happy with the outcome.

Click on the image for a better view. I have used the acrylic yarn and 3mm hook.

I like this part the butterfly band, the tulip and then the diamond band.  Creative pattern and using simple stitches different patterns have been created.

Hope all of you like this.  Will come up with another post.  Till then, happy crocheting and have a happy weekend.

Doodles and Bracelets

After getting involved in drawing zentangle patterns I have seen some videos on youtube and those videos inspired me to do draw the same and these are results of those videos.  Drawing those patterns were fun and to be special added colors to it using color pencils - a nice way to enjoy what we have done with in our childhood days.  Very enjoyable one and I have learned to draw mandalas also.  Since kids are at home not able to do much embroidery but doing some doodling and coloring in my free time.

The first picture is a combination of different zentangle patterns and colored after it.  The second one is a mandala drawn with a black gel pen.

Doodling with sketch and color pencil.  Inspiration for this comes from here.

Some time back I have bought a rubberband kit and with the help of the videos from youtube I have made some bracelets for my niece.  It is like knitting and easy to do.  Can whip up a bracelet within 5 minutes.

Next I should get some beads and make bracelets with beads.  So this weekend I should hunt for some beads in the craft shop.  Will come back with another project.  Till then happy doodling.  Have a happy weekend.

Embroidered Panel

One of my resolution this year  is to learn stitching a kurti.  I was not satisfied with my tailor and since I know the basics of sewing and cutting I have decided to learn myself.  To my surprise I have found a youtube video tute on cutting and sewing a kurti from a to z.  I have bought a black color cotton fabric to stitch.  To add some personal touch to the kurti I thought of adding a embroidered panel in front and to my luck I have found another tute for adding a panel also.  So with all these videos downloaded and fabric ready I have started to embroider the panel and it is ready to be attached to the fabric..

Here is the embroidered piece.  I have embroidered it in a black color silk cotton which I have some leftover fabric in my stash.  Used basic stitches like satin stitch for flower, herringbone stitch which is in yellow color, fishbone stitch for the leaves in the stem, herringbone stitch for the leaves around the flower, and backstitch for the stem.

The same design is repeated three times to get the necessary length for the panel.  If any of you interested to try this design do drop in a comment. I will post it on my blog.

I should add some sequins or beads or stones to the center of the flower.  Doing satin stitch takes time but the result is worth doing it.  I like the smoothy finish of the satin stitch.  It is done with 1 strand of thread , other stitches are done with 2 strands of threads.

Smalls SAL -April finish, Messy to classy

Smalls SAL is a cross stitch SAL conducted by Heather of stitching Lotus.  This month I stitched a small robin for smalls SAL.  The link for the pattern is here. Stitched on 14ct aida with 2 strands of thread.

You can see the other entries here.

Messy to classy April
-----------------------------
After starting to do cross stitch I need different shades of threads and then I started to collect all the shades of a single color. I stored all these threads in different plastic boxes one box for a single color with different shades in it.  But it is difficult to sort out the particular number and also to find out the shades available.  So to find the shades available I have made cardboard bobbins and wind it .  Then arranged in a plastic box according to the number and now it easy for me to identify the particular shade.  Happy with this arrangement.

I am also in the process of combining two to three colors in a single box so that I get more space in my shelf.  Will show that later.

Before
--------
This is only a part of my boxes.  I have nearly 10 boxes like this.

Now.-
-------
The three rows from the left are anchor threads and the right side rows are rangoli, doli etc.  Today my DH brought me another 15 shades which are not in my collection.  Yet to arrange it.  I would like to see my thread box filled with all shades.

Some yo yo's crocheted with scraps of yarn. Planning to make a runner out of it.
